EXPLANATION OF STRATEGIC ALIGNMENT: The CapMetro Bikeshare program operated by the non-profit, Bikeshare of Austin, was folded into CapMetro's modes of service in August 2022. The fares and fees that were charged were assumed by CapMetro. Staff seek to expand and align the fares and fees currently being charged to Bikeshare customers of the new upgraded Bikeshare system and with fees and fares of other similar sized cities Bikeshare offering.
BUSINESS CASE: CapMetro's Bikeshare fares and fees must align with the cost of operating the Bikeshare system, and ensure financial sustainability. A fare adjustment will ensure alignment.
COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION: This item will be presented to the full board on April 21, 2025.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: CapMetro operates the CapMetro Bikeshare program, while the City of Austin retains ownership of the equipment consisting of bikes, stations, and docks. The fares and fees charged by Bikeshare will cover a larger portion of the maintenance and operations of the new e-bike upgrade.
